We first saw saba3 during the zoo raid in January 2010. The team were desperate to get the little cub to safety as the sight of him covering behind a torn up mattress in his otherwise bare enclosure at the zoo was all too painful to witness. The zoo keepers promised they would get the key. The team averted their attention for only a few minutes within which time the little cub had disappeared.
For the next few months our teams were desperately trying to find the young cub, fearing the worst.
"We have found him" came the voice over the phone in April of 2010. Could it be? Could we have finally located the scared young cub? Within a short time the truck carrying the crate arrived at New Hope and we very slowly lifted the outside gate to get our first view of the new arrival. There was no doubt - it was the same little boy.
Saba3 was released into his new home next to Seeta (an older lioness) where he spent his first few days catching up on some much needed rest in the ample mounds of straw provided. With some good food, rest and patience Saba3 quickly recovered.
In 2011 Saba3 was re-homed at Lionsrock Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa, where he was introduced to original group of cubs from Jordan (Hope and Co.). After a few skirmishes with Arandas the pride settled down and welcomed their new friend willingly. The Jordan lions, as they are fondly known by all at Lionsrock and beyond, are to this day enjoying their lives together at Lionsrock.
