Jungle cats are a type of wild cat which are native to Jordan. New Hope received four Jungle Cats which were confiscated from local zoos under the law which states that no native species may be kept in captivity. Three of the Jungle Cats recovered quickly once they settled at New Hope and received the necessary treatment, food and care needed. One of the cats, better known as Bibi, unfortunately had a severe injury to her tail and left ear.
After careful assessment and rehabilitation it was decided that the three were fit candidates for release. In May 2010 they were released in an area close to the Jordan River where there is a good population of Jungle cats.
Bibi remained at New Hope where she was moved to an outside enclosure which gave her the ability to bask in the sun, or take refuge in the shade of the large trees. Very soon she started hunting and recovered well, however she was still not well enough for release. New Hope offered Bibi the care, space and life required for her to live as she should and she very quickly became one of the prefered residents!
